This is why you
have to make sure you have full track day cover
It is also important
to make sure that the Cerbera you are looking at did not once look like this.
A car as extensively damaged as this, class 2, should have any useful components
removed and the chassis and shell crushed. The above vehicle was advertised
for £27,000. The reason I ask for VIN and engine numbers is precisely
so I can prevent cars like this from being bodged back onto the road.
I need your experiences
when insuring your Cerbie. Who's good & who's not. How much
etc.

- Not happy!!!!!!!!!
I'm currently insured with A-One insurance, last year cost me about 650 fully
comp track days etc etc. I've got 5 plus years of no claims and only an SP30
(3 points) from '95. Anyway my renewal arrived this morning for 1160!!!! almost
double, so I rang them up and asked why (two reasons 1 I'm under 30, but I
was last year as well!! 2 TVRs have been black listed by under writers because
so many Chimaeras are easily available on the market now and therefore every
Tom (no offence intended to Swiss dwellers!!) Dick and Harry managed to crash
one last year) anyway the best quote I can get is via Peart associates, for
850!! So I'm a bit pissed off about the whole thing, has any body got any
suggestions? Charlie
- Could be worth
trying Cheam Insurance. I use them (after 2 years with them
on my Chimaera as well) - they have always given me the best quote. Policy
is underwritten by Norwich Union, I'm 29 (28 when I got it!), 5 years no claims,
live in Croydon (South London), Garaged, clean license, 98R 4.5 is about £850,
fully comp and unlimited mileage, excess of about £200 I think. Never tried
track day cover though. Their number is 0181 770 1001.

- A good
friend of mine owns his own brokerage and I still pay £900pa. I'm 29 with
full no claims (£100 was to protect the full bonus). There are no restrictions
on mileage and only I am insured to drive. The car is a '96 4.2. (In
'pantone purple')

- Just called
Bennetts and they quoted me (29) and my fiancé (27) £1300 for the car on the
drive in WA15 postcode. I also called Privilege 0870 9000
707 and with the same info they pitched in at £1059 including track days,
protected no claims and other benefits.
- I am 28, single,
live in CR0, have a clean license and 5 years no claims, for a garaged 98R
4.5 Cerbera valued at £45k they quoted me around £920, fully comp with unlimited
mileage. Again, this was with Norwich Union.
- Try A-One insurance
on 01202 760022, again through Norwich union I had a Cerbie 4.2 last year
based in Southampton for myself 26 and girlfriend 25 I paid 650 all in.

Bain Hogg, who
are now known as AON Risk Services having merged in 1996, sent me a summary
of my renewal which I have reproduced in the table below. However, I was
rather annoyed to discover that my bonus had not been protected as I had requested.
I spent months last year obtaining proofs from previous insurers & brokers.
My delight in the low figure was marred somewhat by the addition of a £62.66
loading. Still, I can't complain. I was paying £1,800 for my Lotus
Carlton.
