Janet Regan calls at the school to collect her daughter for an appointment at the dentists but on arrival shes told that Susie hasnt been at the school all morning, the teacher assuming shes been kept off by her mother. Jack is meeting one of his snouts, Stan Proctor, in the park but little do they know theyre being watched. Janet is describing Susie to Inspector Knowles when one of her school friends tells them that he saw her getting into a car that morning with a woman. Jack returns home to find a parcel waiting for him. He opens it to find one of her shoes and a note telling him shes all right and to expect a phone call. Jack waits patiently until hes contacted. A man tells him to keep his nose out of the case hes currently working on and to tell no one about this call. Jack realises he needs the help of George who's currently on sick leave. He visits him and asks him to help. Jack tells him that hes been visiting a series of jewelers the previous week and so one of them must be involved. George visits Arnold Foss, a jeweler, pretending to be a Crime Prevention Officer. Foss tells George that his shop is totally safe as he has just spent £15,000 on security. He is then introduced to the son, Alan. Stan calls the yard to speak to Jack but hes not there so he leaves a message for Jack to call him on his return. As he hangs up he hears a noise in the back of his shop so he goes to investigate. On his return Jack tries Stans number but its out of order. Jack thinks something is up so he and George go to investigate. They let themselves in the back way and Jack finds Stan lying amongst the remains of his antique shop, dead. Jack finds a note in Stans wallet with the name of Fosss jewelers dated that day and the realise something must be happening sometime today. George is in a car across the road from Fosss. He sees a woman enter and later leave with Alan Foss. They split up and George follows the woman back to a house where, after calling him, Jack arrives. They kick the rear door in are met by another woman with a gun. They disarm her and Jack rushes upstairs to be re-united with his daughter. At the station they are interviewing Brenda, the woman who abducted Susie, who tells them she knows nothing about a robbery. She only helped her boyfriend, Alan Foss, by abducting Susie. When he threatens to charge her with being an accessory to Stan Proctors death, she tells them that Alan got involved with some nasty villains to whom he owed money for gambling debts and they had suggested he assist them in the blag. She knows that the jewelery came through Heathrow five days ago and that Alan was going to be the fence and that the blag was going down that night. The villains enter the building via the roof but the Sweeney are lying in wait. Once theyve entered through the window the lights are turned on and after a struggle they are all arrested. Jack takes Kenny Jarvis, the man who had masterminded the abduction of his daughter, down in the lift and gives him a good hiding. Jack tries to spend a quiet evening with Kate but as usual the phone rings and the Sweeney beckons. |
