Jack is entertaining one of his girlfriends when the phone rings. It’s Joey Stickley, one of his snouts. He says there will be a cigarette lorry hijack in the morning and for £1000 reward money and the chance to escape he’ll give Jack the information. The next morning the blag goes as planned and Stickley is allowed to escape whilst the others are arrested.

Haskins is in Toronto and Stephen Quirk is standing in for him. Jack is called to his office told that the Post Office gang which operated last summer is back in action. Jack doesn’t believe the raids were down to one gang but Quirk persists.

Jack meets Stickley in a pub the next day. He gives him the £ 1000 from the police informers fund & tells him he’s having problems getting the reward money from the insurance company. He questions him about the Post Office raids but he denies any knowledge of the gang.

Quirk tells Jack that he’s heard from an informant that the gang have been hired by a Mr. Big to do a specialised job and Jack wonders why he didn’t hear anything.

Jack visits Stickley to make sure he’s not singing his songs to anyone else and to tell him the insurance company will only give him 5% as the load wasn’t technically stolen.

Later that day in a pub George shows Jack a picture of a Dutch man called Yannos who Serious Crime Squad had been trying to arrest for some time and George thinks that Stickley is recruiting for Yannos but not telling Jack anything.

Quirk tells Jack that the firm are looking for a driver for a dummy run and he is going to put George in undercover as a taxi driver.

George picks up Stickley in the taxi and after a short drive they stop outside a jewellers in Jermyn Street & wait for Yannos. Stickley leaves the taxi & tells him to take Yannos wherever he wants to go. Yannos gets in the taxi with Harry, his bodyguard, and is taken to his hotel.

Unbeknown to anyone is the fact that Harry is actually an undercover Serious Crime Squad officer.

In Quirk’s office they are going over the plan of action using a model of the jewellers and the surrounding street. He tells them that his snout must be allowed to escape & they naturally assume he means Stickley. He wants the job to go off well as he wants the video of the raid to be used as a Police training video and he has arranged with the Home Office to have a delegation of German State Police in the control room observing their methods.

Inside the jewellers Jack is setting the scene & in the control room Quirk is explaining the plan to the Germans.

George approaches the pick up point but there’s no one there & he’s moved on by a policeman so he drives on again. Back at the pick-up a man enters the taxi but it’s not Stickley. They drive to the jewellers and Quirk’s snout enters followed by Yannos & Harry. Harry pulls a gun and tries to arrest Yannos but in the confusion a battle erupts between Sweeney and Serious Crime Squad officers and Yannos escapes. Up in the control room Quirk is shouting into the microphone but no one can hear him.

Jack goes to the snooker hall to have it out with Stickley who tells hem he set up Quirk because he once arrested him and sent him to jail.
