Eddie monk is checking the pools over his breakfast when he realises he's won.

Some weeks later Jack and George are at a party he's thrown in celebration and he tells them he won £58,000.

The next day at the factory Haskins calls Jack into his office. He's worried that a witness to a forthcoming trial may be intimidated into not giving evidence.

At the Monks, Eddie answers the phone. A man says that 11 years ago Monk ,was involved in a robbery where a security guard was clobbered and hasn't walked since. He says that if he isn't given £10,000 he'll go to the police. Haskins and Jack visit the witness, Maurice Pope, but he won't let them in as he's terrified and Jack is sure someone has got to him,

Eddie goes to see Alec Slomon who was also on the same job and demands help.

Monk withdraws the money and places it as requested in a car and leaves. A man comes out of a derelict house and drives off. Meanwhile, Anne Monk is in the bank collecting a new cheque book when Mr. Saxby, the manager, calls her into his office to ask what the money was for. When her husband returns home she asks him what the money was for and when she persists he hits her.

Haskins visits Pope alone to try and reassure him and he later tells Jack to mount a 24 hour surveillance on him.

Kath tells George that her father is missing and about the money. So he and Jack go looking for him and find him drunk in the street. They take him home and he mentions something about 11 gears ago.

The phone rings at the Monks' and the man says he wants another £5,000. Monk meets Alec and says he has a plan.

Monk withdraws the money from the bank and Mr. Saxby rings Anne to tell her.

He deposits the money in a car as before but when the man enters the car, AIec drives up in front of the car and attempts to attack the man but is overpowered. Monk rushes aver and clings onto the door as the car speeds off. It careers into several cars before Monk is thrown into the road. Alec runs over but Monk is dead.

Jack and George go to show Anne some identikits of the two men seen in the street hoping that she recognises one of them. Kath recognises one of the men and Jack tells George to go and see Wally Hough an ex copper who may recognisethem from the past but he's too drunk to even see.

When Jack gets back to the factory, Haskins tells him that Pope has done a runner and he fell out ore train approaching Bristol station and is in hospital with serious back and leg injuries.

The next night Wally meets jack in a pub and, now sober, tells Jack he thinks one of the men is AIec. Next day they visit Alec at his garage but he gives them the slip and drives off. The Sweeney follows and eventually Alec gives up the chase. He tells them about the blag 11 gears ago and that they were in it with a man called Ken Norris but he died 6 years ago.

George finds out that Ken's wife is living with Brian Fischer who bears an uncanny resemblance to the other

identikit picture. They visit Eileen Norris with a warrant. When they tell her that Eddie Monk was dead she tells them that her husband had told her about the blag just before he died. Just then Fischer arrives and after a scuffle he's arrested.

They recover the £ 10,000 and take it to Anne Monk but she says she wants it to go to the security guard crippled 11 years earlier.
