I’d noticed that my tacho needle would bounce when changing gear. Here you can see me changing down a gear at 2500rpm, and then up a gear.
What the needle does however is bounce up to 4500 and down to 1500 before stabilising at 3500 and 2500 respectively.
Over the winter I figured I would address this. Speedy Cables are the go-to guys for dial servicing, but ironically they are not known for a Speedy turn-around.
So I sought out a replacement Tacho, and sent it off to Speedy Cables and asked for their full service. Beyond the mechanical side of things, the full service included a cosmetic refresh (reprint the dial face, new glass and new bezel). And once back, I would have it swapped over with the one currently installed in my dash.
Happy to say it is back, looking fresh and no more bouncy needle.
When put side by side with the speedo, you immediately notice how clear the glass is on the Tacho. I guess 25 years of cleaning of the dial glass has given the Speedo an almost slightly frosted effect on the glass.
I have a niggling issue with the Speedo anyway, so I’ll get that serviced too.
